After the English Civil War, the monarchy was abolished, and Charles, the son of King Charles I, went into exile.

When the monarchy was restored in 1660, Charles became King Charles II and ruled until his death in 1685.

This document—remarkably connected to modern history—is a signed warrant by King Charles II authorizing the payment of £10,000 to the Duke of York.

The modern correlation? Today, Charles III is King of the United Kingdom. In October 2025, his brother, Prince Andrew—long known as the Duke of York—was stripped of all of his royal titles and responsibilities.
