In 1835, as President Andrew Jackson approaches the end of his presidency, he writes this intimate letter to his longtime friend, James A. Hamilton, son of Alexander Hamilton.

This rare document, now part of The Luecht Historical Collection, reveals Jackson’s longing to leave Washington and return to The Hermitage, his plantation estate in Tennessee.
